Minnesota Adopts Tougher Laws for Exotics

Tougher Exotic Animal Regulations Hit The Books

Under the law, owners of animals such as bears, lions and tigers, chimpanzees and gorillas will be required to register with the local animal control authority within 60 days.

The notification must include the persons name, address, telephone number, and a complete inventory of each regulated animal. Failing to do so could result in misdemeanor charges.

The animals must see a veterinarian at least once a year and the owner must maintain health and ownership records and keep those records for the life of the animal or transfer them if the animal is sold or given to someone else.

It's a start - but lots of loopholes. The law also fails to address smaller animals, ignoring zoonotic diseases.
